Ingredients and Eco Friendly Promise
We have high standards and know you do too.
We love baked treats, so much so that we decided to bake them for a living!
However, we also don’t like the copious amounts of waste and plastic used in the industry.
Eco friendly Packaging
It’s a difficult one, you need packaging suitable to package and protect bakes with oils like butter and stay in shape until they reach you. However we’ve tried to find the best way around this. We choose a true cellulose clear transparent flexible film to package our bakes. It keeps them fresh and sealed, is certified biodegradable and compostable and derived from renewable wood pulp (mostly fast-growing eucalyptus from FSC-certified managed forests). It serves as an eco-friendly replacement for traditional plastic packaging like polypropylene.
Any cling film we use is eco-friendly cling wrap: Recyclable and produced from renewable sugarcane bioplastic, a natural and sustainable alternative to petroleum based plastic wraps which emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It’s also cruelty free, BPA and phthalates free.
All our outer packaging is FSC-certified card from responsibly managed forests and recyclable tissue paper.
We’re not perfect, we haven’t found a great alternative to clear tape or the windows in our sectioned boxes but the second we find an alternative, we’ll use it.
Ingredients
We crave proper homemade treats, why do they taste so much better? They are not full of cheaper substitutes, vegetable oils instead of real butter or preservatives for shelf life. Supermarket goods may be cheaper, but they come at the cost of quality and taste in favour of mass production. We only use shortening where dairy free is required. We always put quality before quantity and won’t skimp just to increase profit margins. Whilst we love indulging in household chocolate and biscuit names, and we have no issue with them, (a lot have cleaned up their acts too and also abide by ethically sourced ingredients too) we’ll do our best to only choose the best ingredients.
Sustainability
We recognise cocoa isn’t going to be grown in the UK anytime soon, but we champion British ingredients, so we use them where practical. For those ingredients that come from afar, we are not only seeking quality but ethically and sustainably sourced with fair trade deals, so everyone involved in the supply chain is looked after, from supplier to consumer.
Free from and health conscious
Whilst baked treats will never be a superfood, We are actively working on a range with minimal ingredients and natural sugar sources to create a 'clean ' ingredient range for the future. Did you know raw cocoa powder is in fact full of antioxidants and other power-food qualities? We’ll aim to get a range that benefits from raw and minimally processed ingredients so even the most health conscious can enjoy a treat.
Dietary restrictions
As sufferers of restricted diets for health reasons, we understand the importance of dietary restrictions, so we will also be working on ‘free from’ ranges including sugar free (with clean sugar alternatives), gluten free and dairy free ranges. It may take some time (there is a lot of red tape in the food Industry) but we will be working on it!
We work hard to not only produce tasty treats but make it feel good eating them too.
